Craig Wilcox
2005 MINI Cooper S
SCCA G Stock
|
HISTORY
Craig first began autocrossing back in 2003 when he first entered in a KC
region event in his 2003 Nissan 350Z. In his first season, Craig placed 1st
in SM2 in both the SCCA and Crown autocorss clubs. Craig was also awarded
with the Rookie of the Year honor in 2003 from the KC region's Crown
autocross club. At nationals in 2003, Craig decided to make a few
minor adjustments and compete in BSP for his first nationals, he ended up
placing 13th in a very tough field of 18.
In 2004, Craig decided drastic changes needed the be made with his car
selection/setup, so, to be more competitive, he purchased a 2004 Mini
Cooper S and entered in GS. Craig immediately added the
MINI Quick fit
Harness made by Schroth as well as magnets and other
accessories needed for a full preparation for the season. Craig also entered in
the Evolution Phase 1 and Phase 2 schools which drastically helped him
harness his driving skills. In the very first KC region event in his new Mini
Cooper S, Craig had a 1st place PAX and the season was off with a
bang! For the 2004 season, he had the highest average PAX throughout the
Midwest Division during the 4 race Midwest divisional series and he was the
2004 GS Midwest Division champion with 3 1st place finishes and a close 2nd
place finish. Craig also entered in the Prosolo Finale in 2004 where they
placed him in E2 class, because he didn't have 3 Prosolo events under his belt
for the year. In his 3rd Prosolo ever, Craig won E2 in a very stacked
class of 18 on his final set of runs of the competition. Two days later at the
2004 National Championship, Craig had a very respectable 7th place finish in
a field of 42 in GS.
Just before the 2005 season, Craig sold his 04 Mini and purchased a
2005 Mini Cooper S with motivation more than ever to obtain his ultimate
goal of a National Championship someday. With not much time for car
preparation after receiving his car on a Tuesday, Craig installed the most
important mod of all, the Schrothe quick fit harness and immediately set out on a
journey west to compete in the 3 national events in El Paso, Fontana and San
Diego. Craig had a 1st place finish in GS with a 7th Place PAX in the El Paso
National Tour for his first event in the 05 Cooper S. The next weekend
he drove to Fontana for the Prosolo where he had a respectable 3rd place
finish in a field of 13. At the San Diego National tour, Craig placed 6th out
of 15 but was still within 1 second of 1st place. Disappointed with his
result in San Diego, Craig managed to pull himself together and head back home
to the midwest where he competed and placed 1st at the Walnut Ridge
National Tour and had a great 7th place PAX in a field of 200+ competitors.
Craig's latest victory was at the Atwater Prosolo where he defeated some very
respectable competition and set himself up for a potential Prosolo
National Championship if things go right at the Prosolo Finale in Topeka for
2005.
Craig has spared no expense with his setup for GS this season. Here are a
